How to use Prepared You

The sad truth is all the work you do will help no one if nobody knows about it or how to access it.

Five steps

  1. 1Fill in your information a little at a time each day, until done.
  2. 2Print any section for your 3-ring binder, or the whole plan, with the Print button on each page.
  3. 3Place the printed copy in a lock box at home, or in a safety deposit box.
  4. 4Give copies of just the pages that must be shared to a trusted party when necessary.
  5. 5Finally, show at least one person you trust where it is so they can access it when needed.

Keeping your information safe

The author would never put all of this information in one computer document, even a password-protected one, because people hack computers to commit identity theft and steal from bank accounts, credit cards and crypto wallets. That is why this app does not ask for passwords, Social Security numbers, key combinations or wallet recovery words. Record where those are kept instead, and keep the printed originals locked up.

Good habits

  • Share the plan only with your most trusted people.
  • Back up anything you keep on a computer to an external drive, and keep it somewhere safe.
  • Review and update it whenever your information changes.
  • Record stories and memories with loved ones using a free tool like Loom, Zoom or your phone.
